“I Can Sing. I Can Dance. I Can Do Anything in the World.”

Sienna Matthews has always loved being around people.
She loves to sing, dance, and try new things. Especially if it means getting to be creative! She’s outgoing, social, and happiest when she’s spending time with friends and family. And if you’ve ever met her you’ve probably noticed something else pretty important about her too.
Sienna isn’t afraid to be herself.
And while that confidence shines brightly today, it took years of hard work, support, and a community that believed in her every step of the way to build it.
Growing Up at Schreiber
When Sienna was young, she was diagnosed with cerebellar ataxia, a balance disorder, along with global developmental delays. Like many families who come through our doors, the Matthews family didn’t know exactly what the future would hold, but they knew that Sienna deserved every opportunity to reach her full potential.
And she did.
“I graduated from all of my therapies. I learned to talk and walk, which my doctors said I probably wouldn’t do, but I did with help from Schreiber.”
Over the years, Schreiber became more than a place she came for services. It became part of her life.
When asked what Schreiber means to her family, Sienna’s answer has nothing to do with therapy equipment or treatment plans.
“Schreiber gave us friends that felt like family.”
Today, Sienna is a member of The UnSinkables, Schreiber’s Modern Band and when asked what she’s most proud of, her answer comes quickly.
“Singing in the Schreiber band.”
Taking the Stage
The UnSinkables gives older teens and young adults of all abilities the opportunity to learn music, collaborate with peers, and perform together.
For Sienna, it’s become a place where she can express herself, build confidence, and spend time doing something she loves.
“Being part of The UnSinkables makes me feel like a pop star,” Sienna said. “I love being part of the group and getting to perform with my friends.”
This July, to honor Disability Pride Month she’ll take the stage again as part of the Celebrate Abilities Concert Series, alongside award-winning singer-songwriter Halley Elwell and celebrate the creativity, talent, and individuality of people of all abilities.
Finding Your People
As Sienna has grown older, her goals have changed.
Today she’s focused on school, becoming more independent, and exploring what comes next. One day she’d like to follow in her mom’s footsteps and work in the beauty industry.
But one lesson has stayed with her throughout the years.
“You can find your people and live a big happy life.”
It’s a simple statement, but it says a lot about what belonging can mean to a child.
Because every child deserves to be themselves, feel welcomed, and discover what they love alongside friends.
That’s what Disability Pride Month means to us.
It’s celebrating children for who they are, recognizing their strengths, and creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and shine.
Or as Sienna puts it:
“I can sing. I can dance. I can do anything in the world. Sometimes you have to believe in yourself, and if you don’t do that then you might not know who you are.”
Every Child Deserves a Place to Belong
For 90 years, Schreiber has helped children build skills, gain confidence, form friendships, and discover what makes them unique. Just like Sienna.
