Position Summary

In this position you will help develop and implement educational programs for children 6 wks. to five years old in the Child Care settings in cooperation with the child’s family, outside agencies, and staff members.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunches
  • Provide adequate equipment and activities
  • Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities
  • Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities
  • Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts
  • Establish policies and procedures including acceptable disciplinary policies
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress
  • Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential client files
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times
  • Establish routines and provide positive guidance
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable
  • Implement positive discipline when required

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.

Position Summary

Provides evaluation and treatment services for children from birth to 21 years, with delays or disorders in the areas of self-care skills, perceptual/fine motor skills, sensory motor skills and oral-motor and feeding disorders. The goal is to increase the functioning level of a child with disabilities through activities which require the child to adapt to his/her physical and emotional surrounding and to assist parents in learning how to understand and deal with their child’s needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Administers occupational therapy evaluations and treatment in accordance with standards established by the Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Documents evaluation results and recommendations in a formal report.
  • Develops individual goal plan for each client in conjunction with client, family and other professionals.
  • Plans and prepares daily treatment session activities/materials based on established goal plan.
  • Completes all documentation and billing required for each client contact using the current EMR system for center-based clients.
  • Efficient understanding of the current EMR system
  • Understand required documentation formats for each referral sources, BHDS, IU13, etc.
  • Communicates with physicians, families, teachers, payment sources and other professionals regarding treatment, home and school suggestions and coordination of care
  • Participate in inter-agency meetings
  • Maintains upkeep of Occupational Therapy Department by returning equipment to its appropriate location, cleans equipment as per Infection Control policy, informs department lead of low supplies
  • Assists in supervising shadow students, occupational therapy assistants, volunteers, and orientation of new staff
  • Actively seeks educational opportunities for professional growth by attending in house in service training and at least one outside continuing education conference each year
  • Maintains requires CEUS for licensure and all required referral source
  • Participates in any specialty programs within the realm of the Occupational Therapy job description – occupational therapist department as delegated by the department head
  • Shall be responsible for provision of service in natural environment of assigned clients and shall possess personal mode of transportation to comply with requirements
  • Participate in the supervision of student internships by maintain contact with all affiliating schools and filling out necessary forms to update records, monitoring and updating student program and manual on a regular basis; supervising students either directly or via supervision of an appointed staff therapist; and evaluating student(s) at midterm and upon completion of affiliation when necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with scheduling dept, social work dept, and therapy aide when required
  • Participates and supports center events, fundraising, and functions as needed

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program of Occupational Therapy. Past working experience or internship in a pediatric setting preferred. Specialty Certification (NDT, SI, Pediatric) desired.

  • Provides direct therapy and evaluations in accordance with standards established by American Speech Language and Hearing Association and State licensure.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, and other professionals regarding treatment, programs, and home intervention programs.
  • Develops and implements treatment plan for each individual client and maintains progress notes.  Documents evaluation results and recommendations.
  • Plans and prepares daily treatment session activities/materials.
  • Completes all documentation and billing required for each client contact using the current EMR system for center-based clients (i.e. daily progress notes, discharge summaries and any other required reports).
  • Understands required documentation formats for each referral sources, BHDS, IU13, etc.
  • Participates in inter-agency meetings, (staff, multi-disciplinary team, department, in- services, IU-13 and MH/MR).
  • Communicates with physicians, families, teachers, payment sources and other professionals regarding treatment, home and school suggestions and coordination of care.
  • Shall be responsible for provision of services in natural environment of assigned clients and shall possess personal mode of transportation to comply with requirement.
