A Legacy Shaped by Progress

As we mark 90 years of service, we also recognize that Schreiber’s story is part of a much larger movement for access, dignity, and inclusion. Over the past century, key milestones in disability history helped shape how children learn, grow, and access care, laying the foundation for organizations like ours to take root and thrive.

Our Story: From One Nurse to a Community Cornerstone

Schreiber’s journey began in 1936, when local nurse Edna Schreiber founded the Lancaster County Society for Crippled Children in response to the polio epidemic. Her vision was simple but powerful: children with disabilities deserved care, opportunity, and the chance to thrive.

Over the decades, our organization evolved alongside advances in medicine, education, and disability rights. We expanding services, deepened expertise, and always remained rooted in community need. While much has changed, one thing has never wavered: a belief in every child’s potential.

Today, Schreiber continues that legacy by providing pediatric therapy, early education, and specialized programs that help children build skills, confidence, and independence.

Celebrate the Present. Invest in the Future.

This anniversary is not just about looking back. It’s about ensuring that children and families can continue to access compassionate, high-quality care for generations to come.

As part of our 90th anniversary celebration, we invite you to:

90 Years of Empowering Abilities

Schreiber’s story began in 1936, when local nurse Edna Schreiber founded the Lancaster County Society for Crippled Children in response to the polio epidemic. What started as a small effort to help children walk, play, and thrive grew into the community cornerstone known today as the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development.

Over the decades, the Schreiber Center has evolved, but one thing has never changed: we have remained the premier place for children of all abilities to discover their strength, their voice, and their potential.

As we celebrate this milestone, we invite you to become a monthly donor, providing the steady support that helps every child empower their abilities and reach their fullest potential for the next 90 years.
