Schreiber gives venerable Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ & Festival a new look for 2015

Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center presents its 27th Annual Rubber Duckie RaceTM and Festival this year with a new date, a new partner event and 25,000 new racing ducks.
First, the date. This year’s Duckie Race will be Sunday, Sept. 13, in Lancaster County Central Park. Schreiber changed the date from the traditional last Sunday in July to accommodate the increasingly larger crowds that turn out every year for the Duckie Race. County officials estimated last year’s attendance at more than 5,000.
Second, the new partner event. The move to September allowed Schreiber to pair the Rubber Duckie Race with Schreiberpalooza, a music festival and another fundraiser for the center. Schreiberpalooza will be Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Lancaster Liederkranz, and the two events combined will create the first DuckiePalooza Weekend.
Finally, the new ducks. Thanks to a generous $25,000 donation from LCBC, the Manheim-based church, Schreiber purchased 25,000 new racing ducks that will make their first run down the river this year. And 5,000 of those ducks will be blue specialty ducks. These limited-edition ducks will be racing to win one of the 10 higher-value premium prizes assembled for this year’s race, prizes that include a 43-inch Sharp Aquos flatscreen HD TV and a Weber Genesis copper gas grill.

Schreiber will also have 20,000 of the traditional yellow racing ducks. Purchase a single Duck ($5), Quack Pack (3 for $10), Lucky Duckie (7 for $25), Daffy Dozen (12 for $50) or entire Flock (25 for $100) and join in the fun of the race down the Conestoga River in support of thousands of children with special needs receiving treatment at Schreiber Pediatric. Ducks are on sale now at the Center, online at www.schreiberpediatric.org/ducks, at locations around Lancaster County or at the festival on Sept. 13. For each purchase, supporters of the event receive a souvenir rubber duckie, dressed as a character from this year’s Beach Party Duckies theme, including surfers, lifeguards and hula dancers.
This year’s limited edition collectible duckies feature ducks in various musician poses as a nod to DuckiePalooza Weekend and Schreiberpalooza
Duck supporters and racers are encouraged to then join the family fun on Sept. 13 as the ducks take to the water! The Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ & Festival includes carnival games, pony rides, inflatables, face painting, crafts, a baby duckling parade, food vendors and more! The festival kicks-off at 2 p.m. and the race starts at 5 p.m. with WGAL’s Joe Calhoun and Ronnie Ramone from WROZ-FM, Fun 101.3, emceeing the excitement. The first duck to cross the finish line will win a $1,000 Visa gift card courtesy of Susquehanna Bank.
This year’s event is title sponsored by Aetna, Donegal Mutual Insurance Group and Susquehanna Bank, with additional media sponsorship from WGAL Channel 8, WROZ-FM (Fun 101.3), WKZF-FM (ESPN Radio 92.7), Clipper Magazine and WJTL 90.3. A special thanks to Lancaster County Parks and Recreation for hosting the event at County Park.
All proceeds from the 26th Annual Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ and Festival benefit the therapies and programs of the Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center. Please join us for a quacktacular time!
