Food Discovery Camp
At the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, we offer a three-day Food Discovery Camp to help children with non-medical feeding challenges explore new foods and develop healthy eating habits in a supportive and pressure-free environment. This camp is focused on helping children feel comfortable with food and mealtime experiences.
What Food Discovery Camp Offers
- Sensory Play: Campers are encouraged to use all five of their senses to engage with new foods, with taste coming last.
- Guided Food Exploration: We encourage campers to taste new foods through fun and engaging activities that stimulate curiosity and reduce anxiety around eating.
- Positive Mealtime Experiences: This camp focuses on providing a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, helping children to associate new food with positive experiences.
- Peer Support: Campers participate in group activities that promote social interaction and allow them to see their peers trying new foods, encouraging them to do the same.
Why Choose Food Discovery Camp?
- Specialized Focus: The camp is specifically designed for children ages 5-8 with non-medical feeding challenges, providing tailored support and strategies.
- Experienced Staff: Our camp director, Occupational Therapist Emily Beddow, has over 26 years of expertise in pediatric therapy and specializes in non-medical feeding therapy.
- Positive and Pressure-Free: We prioritize creating a fun and relaxed environment where children can explore new foods without pressure or stress.
- Results Beyond Camp: The camp helps children develop healthy eating habits and positive attitudes toward food, which can have lasting benefits beyond the camp experience.
