Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ Rained Out! Annual Event Raises $122,000 to Date Despite Cancellation

(LANCASTER, Pa.) – For the first time in twenty-two years, Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center’s Annual Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ & Festival was rained out! Despite a forecast of scattered thundershowers, Center staff and supporters optimistically set-up carnival games, inflatables, arts and crafts, BINGO, food, music and more this morning at Lancaster County Central Park in anticipation of raising over $140,000 for children with special needs. But just fifteen minutes shy of the 2 p.m. kick-off, a tornado warning, gusts of wind and torrential downpour swept away dinghy derby boats, tents and tickets and waterlogged merchandise tables, vendors and games, forcing Schreiber President, Bill Jefferson, to cancel the event.

In lieu of the much anticipated duck drop, Schreiber Pediatric held a ticket drawing (indoors, of course!) back at the Center on Good Drive at 5 p.m. Schreiber kids, Talyor Geib and Adam and Luke Prokay, who currently receive therapy services at the Center, drew our lucky winners. First place, a $1,000 Visa giftcard, has been awarded to Kathleen Patton of West Chester. The other top ten winners numerically include Liam McFalls of Leola, Ken Solart of Lancaster, Robert Gast of Lancaster, Mariah Wagner of Conestoga, Samantha Vollrath of East Petersburg, Stephen Minich of Millersville, Bart Garver of Honey Brook, Jim Carroll of Mount Joy and Wayne Scott of Christiana. Another forty ticket holders were drawn and will receive an official Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ event t-shirt and a free Bruster’s ice cream cone. Last place went to Rhonda Keefer of Lancaster who will receive a jar of molasses.

Ticket and t-shirt sales, as well as support from local community members and businesses, for the 22nd Annual Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ and Festival were strong going into the weekend. The Center has raised $122,000 to date and hopes donations in the next few weeks will help reach the $140,000 fundraising goal.

This year’s event was proudly sponsored by Susquehanna Bank and Donegal Insurance Companies, as well as Capital BlueCross, Rockvale Outlets Lancaster, Murray Risk Management and Insurance, Kitchen Kettle Village, Turkey Hill Minit Markets, WGAL Channel 8, 101 The Rose, Smooth Jazz 92.7 and WJTL 90.3. A special thanks also to Lancaster County Parks and Recreation for hosting the event at Lancaster County Central Park.

All proceeds from the 22nd Annual Rubber Duckie Raceâ„¢ and Festival benefit the therapies and programs of Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center, a nationally recognized non-for-profit organization that has been serving children with special needs in Lancaster County for almost seventy-five years.
