Pirouettes for Pediatric Therapy

(LANCASTER, Pa.)- Each school day began with a mother-daughter struggle…and tears. As a tactile sensitive child, Emily could barely tolerate putting on her clothes and a pair of shoes in the morning. She loved to dance but ballet tights were just too much to endure and she missed out on attending dance class like other little girls her age. At seven, Emily was referred to Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center’s Occupational Therapy Department and diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder. With the help of her therapist, Emily, now fifteen, is an accomplished dancer. “I think it’s amazing that a little girl who couldn’t wear shoes, can now dance on pointe,” says her proud mother, Cynthia Pautler.

Emily will perform Glazunov’s “The Seasons” with the Ballet Theater of Lancaster (BTL) on Sunday, June 6 at Franklin & Marshall’s Roschel Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The show is choreographed and staged by Viktor Yeliohin, Ballet Master and Artistic Director of BTL, and will also feature traditional Moldavian and Ukrainian dance pieces. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. Partial ticket sales will benefit Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center.
