39th Annual Softball Weekend

Froehlich Park, Mountville

June 4-6, 2021

6 p.m. Friday – 6 p.m. Sunday

Our FUN-FILLED 48-hour Softball Weekend is open to teams of 12-16 players. For Marathon Play on Friday and Saturday, teams are matched to play according to their ability level and assigned a 2-hour block of playing time. All ages and abilities are welcome. There is also a competitive double-elimination tournament: the Co-Ed Division plays on Saturday and the Men’s Division plays on Sunday. The winner of each division will claim the engraved Schreiber Softball Champions trophy!

This year’s tournament will honor the memories of two longtime Softball Weekend organizers who passed way last year. It will be known as the Gainer-Race Memorial Tournament to recognize the contributions of Harold Gainer and Bob Race.

Read more about them on the Schreiber Stories blog here. Read an interview with Harold from 2015 here.

Schreiber President James DeBord was a guest with fun101.3’s Dennis and Michelle Morning Show. You can listen to him talk about Softball Weekend here.

Be sure to visit our Softball Weekend registration page, where there are more details on how to register and collect donations online.

  • Softball success:
    Better late than never

Schreiber resumed its fundraising events this summer, starting with the 38th Annual Softball Weekend. The event had been postponed from its original dates in June, and we had to switch the location back to Lancaster County Central Park where it had been for many years.

The result looked a lot like the successes we’ve had at past softball events: We raised $49,816.52. We want to say thanks to the generosity of the 29 teams who registered to play, and to this year’s Softball sponsors: Presenting Sponsor Fraternal Order of Police, Red Rose Lodge #16; Ferrrellgas; Kegel’s Produce; Abram Subcontracting; Charles Brothers Inc.; Mag North Land Surveying and Hegeman’s Landscape and Tree Service. We also want to acknowledge the support of FM97, Kunzler, B&T Sportswear, Crystal Springs, White Oak Ice and Lancaster County Parks and Recreation.

Finally, we are especially grateful for the time and hard work put in by this year’s Softball Committee: Co-chairs Bob Abram and Chad Denlinger; and committee members Luie Mendez Jr., Zach Buterbaugh, Joel Geib, Tom Dittoe, Scott Hogg and Ben Trissler.

In Sunday’s Tournament Play, rain forced an early end to the final round of the Men’s Division. Mangold’s IA and Inch & Co. were unable to play an official game, so they will share the title for this year.

In the Co-Ed Division, Appel Valley Butchers defeated Utility Keystone in the final round.

    See you next year!

Appel Valley Butchers claimed the trophy in the Co-Ed Tournament of Softball Weekend, squeezing in their victory before the rains started.
