DuckiePalooza Weekend wrapup

Posted by Dan  Permalink

All the rain leading up to DuckiePalooza Weekend Sept. 12-13 hindered our first attempt at combining these two fabulous Schreiber events. But we still managed to raise more than $114,000 for Schreiber kiddos and offer two days of fun for our supporters.

The Mama Tried Band headlined a fun night at this year's Schreiberpalooz music fest.

The weekend started Saturday night with Schreiberpalooza. Many thanks to the four music acts that performed for us: Darcie Miner, Corty Byron, Jimmy the Whale and The Mama Tried Band. They put on an awesome show that had people dancing late into the night.

We also were grateful for the support we received from our Schreiberpalooza Committee - Schreiber board members Todd Frick and Dave Campbell and longtime Schreiber supporter Judy Ross from Lancaster Dispensing Co. Todd, the committee chairman, did most of the heavy lifting before the event, coordinating the team that provided the stage, sound and lighting. And he did a lot more heavy lifting the night of the event, setting up before the show and breaking down after.

Dave offered his usual wise counsel and sold a bunch of tickets. And Judy provided all the food for the night free of charge, so everything we sold benefitted the Center.

Rain no doubt kept a few folks away, but the ones who made it had a great time. Your support meant a lot.

Several thousand people turned out for this year's 27th Annual Rubber Duckie Race and Festival in September. Even though we weren't able to have the Duckie race, the community support we received helped raise $114,000 for Schreiber kids.

On Sunday, as most of you know, we had to adjust our plans when the rains left the Conestoga River too high and swift to drop the ducks into the water. You still came out, for an afternoon of fun at the festival and to see if you had a winning ticket.

We held a random drawing at the end of the day to pick our prize winners, and a lot of people stayed around after the festival was over to watch Joe Calhoun from WGAL announce the winners.

Between the two events this year, we raised $114,500, all to support the therapy programs we provide for the 4,000 kids we see each year.

We received some nice media attention for the day, including this front-page story from LNP. And we're already thinking about next year's events. Two things we can tell you right now: There will be a second DuckiePalooza Weekend next September, and we will have even more fun planned for you.

In the meantime, there are still a few prizes for prize winners to collect here at the Center. If you were one of the lucky ducks to win a Duckie Race prize, come by and pick it up.

And we'll see you next year.
