Highmark donates $15,000 to Schreiber for new therapy equipment

Nov. 1, 2017

Highmark Inc., a provider of health care benefits based in Camp Hill, Cumberland County, has agreed to donate $15,000 to Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center to purchase a new piece of equipment for the Physical Therapy Department.

Schreiber will acquire a second Biodex Gait Trainer, a treadmill that uses computer technology to measure and track all aspects of a child's walking, from step length and speed to balance and weight distribution. All of the data can then support the therapy goals of improving a child's motion, strength, balance and movement skills.

Schreiber provides pediatric therapy services and is based in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.

"This is a good example of how Schreiber uses cutting-edge techniques and technology to provide best-in-class care to the children we see," said Schreiber President James DeBord. "Some of the equipment we require can be expensive. We always appreciate the community support we receive that allows us to maintain our high quality. Highmark's generous donation is a perfect example of that support, and we are truly grateful for it."

"Highmark is proud to support Schreiber's tremendous work as they continue to provide high-quality health care to children in our region," said Kathy McKenzie, Highmark Vice President of Community Affairs. "We have been longtime partners with Schreiber in building a healthier community and we are happy to continue that partnership today," Ms. McKenzie added.
